The NZA
it all started here, last week Sony's PS3 Security is Epic Fail The first few minutes of the conference were spent explaining the state of security on other consoles (Wii, 360, etc). Following this, the group went on to explain the current state of affairs on the PS3. First, explaining Geohot's memory line glitching exploit from earlier this year. The team then went on to explain the current PS3 security bypasses, such as jailbreaking and service mode/downgrading. Approximately a half hour in, the team revealed their new PS3 secrets, the moment we all were waiting for. One of the major highlights here was, dongle-less jailbreaking by overflowing the bootup NOR flash, giving complete control over the system. The other major feat, was calculating the public private keys (due to botched security), giving users the ability to sign their own SELFs Following this, the team declared Sony's security to be EPIC FAIL! The recent advent of these new exploits means current firmware is vulnerable, v3.55 and possibly beyond. It will be very difficult for Sony to fix the described exploits. The team then displayed the website http://fail0verflow.com/ were we assume will host examples of the new exploits and further details. They stated that easy to use tools would be coming next month. Wachinko (infamous from the Wii hacking/homebrew scene) is on this as well now, so yes, there's going to be lots of piracy in the future - possibly more disturbing is the amount of hacking online games might see, as sony can firmware patch things all they want, its now looking like they wont be able to plug the floodgates without a complete hardware revision like the PSP got (good luck with that). There are big upsides, though: theres already devices to bootup PS1/2 games from an external hard drive (cut back loading times/wear & tear!) and doing this with PS3 titles is not far off. I'm personally happy to see locked save files go, but there's another fun bit going down: Some more good news, the team who are doing the Tales of Graces F translation have just confirmed they are also doing Tales of Vesperia, From ToGTrans Twitter It looks like we're taking up PS3 Vesperia. Now looking for experienced translators, prefer ~JLPT lv2. We will provide coding, editors, etc. fuck yes. Bamco doesn't wanna step up? fuck you, the fans will. let's see what else we get...Yakuza 3 restored? region-free PS1 & 2 games/DVDs? .mkv support? sky's the limit especially if you like emulation! crimsonfire
Shit the PS2 ROM loading sounds enticing if I understood that correctly. There were a handful of games I loved on the PS2 that either came back on the PS3 as shit sequels or just didn't come back at all.
