'X-Men 3' has another villain in Melancon

20th Century Fox and Marvel Entertainment have added another lethal component to "X-Men 3." Mei Melancon has joined the cast of the comic book-inspired sequel as the evil mutant assassin Psylocke. Melancon, who appeared in Brett Ratner's "Rush Hour 2," is reteaming with the helmer for the third installment of the superhero franchise. Word began leaking last week from the Vancouver set that the latest "X-Men" installment would introduce the character Psylocke, who has had several incarnations in the Marvel comic book series and is best known for her fighting and telepathic skills as well as an ability to transport herself and others through shadows. In the film, she will fight against the X-Men as a member of Magneto's (Ian McKellen) Brotherhood of Mutants. (Tatiana Siegel, variety)

I know I'm probably the only Bond fan on the board, but still here's an update on the latest 007 actioner:

Casino Royale - Despite not having a complete cast, Casino Royale has been shooting for about month now in Prague. New cast updates are coming quickly as the director and producers rush to fill parts before time runs out. It's been confirmed that Judi Dench will be returning in the role of M. Why she's returning when this film is meant to restart the franchise? Who knows, who cares, she made a great M and I'm glad to see she's still back. Her return may pave the way for other previous Bond character actors to return like John Cleese (Q), Samantha Bond (Moneypenny) and Colin Salmon (Agent Robinson). Who knows, maybe even Michael Madsen will return. But not for this film, as none of those characters are included in the story. Also joining the cast as Bond's long-time CIA friend Felix Leiter is the great Jeffrey Wright (Syriana, The Manchurian Candidate). French actress Eva Green (Orlando Bloom's love in Kingdom of Heaven) will play Bond's very first Bond Girl Vesper Lynd. And Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen will play the villain Le Chiffre. In the director's chair is Martin Cambell who hasn't exactly wowed anybody since The Mask of Zorro, but since he's responsible for GoldenEye, arguably the best Bond film of the series, it's still nice to see him. Even more exciting is the writing team. While writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade are mostly only known for penning the last two Bond pictures (The World is Not Enough, and Die Another Day) it's said that most of the script has been written by none other than Paul Haggis, Hollywood's golden boy after writing back-to-back Oscar baits Million Dollar Baby and Crash. And if that's not enough to make you say "cool" get a look at what Bond will be driving:

Another tidbit of news, while filming his first fight scene on the film, Daniel Craig got two of his teeth knocked out by an overzealous stuntman. He had to have a dentist flown in from England to correct the damage as no local dentist could do the job. But just like a 00 agent he's quickly back to kicking ass again.

Ridiculous. Danny Craig is a fantastic actor and that alone should earn him the right to play the role at least once (George Lazenby wasn't a fantastic actor and he played it). I think he'll be great.

One side Craig note for comic fans, he was the last actor to be considered for the part of Rorschach in the now-dead Watchment project. In a perfect world, he also would have played John Constantine, but that's just my opinion.

For Layer Cake alone Craig is the man. I'm usually not one for Bond (I did dig Lazenby though, I watched his flick a few years ago to see what all the bitching was about and he was pretty good) but I'd definitly check out a Bond flick with Craig.

Great fucking call on Constantine, SB. Then again, even if they set it in London with a Liverpudlian JC it woulda still been a shit film.

Exactly. I think anybody who is against Craig being Bond hasn't seen Layer Cake. In which case they're basing their opinion on...what...him playing Paul Newman's son in Road to Perdition? Being Angie's love interest in the first Tomb Raider? Layer Cake proves that he's charming, sophisticated and charismatic enough to carry his own movie, and certainly that he has the chops for Bond. (and those who say he's not good looking enough, come on, he was good looking enough to swipe Sienna Miller away from Jude Law)

And I like to think that any writing team who took enough care to insist that a Hellblazer movie be set in London with a Liverpudlian JC, would have taken more care when writing the script. But oh well. No use cryin' over spilt milk...

Funny, just read this before seeing your post. Thoughts as a Bond fan?

It gets better. He sucks as a James Bond actor. He doesn't like to drink (have a hard time getting him to drink the volka), can't drive a stick shift (so much for Bond's niffty car), doesn't like volience and is an awful fighter. In filming his first fight scene, he had some of his front teeh knocked out. I might boycott this film too.

Oh and I heard that in the new Spiderman movie, Spidey wears the black suit. Weee!!!!

You...you know those fights are choreographed, right? He wasn't actually trying to fight the guy. Him getting punched in the face is the fault of the stunt man, not him. I'm not even gonna address the other ones because it's called acting. The guy's a great actor, he deserves a chance.

By the way, before you get too excited about Spidey's black costume, take a look at it.

The studio insists that this teaser poster is not just a black and white pic, it is Spidey in his black costume. Which means that his black costume looks exactly like his color costume except...black. Personally, that doesn't impress me, as the thing I always liked about the symbiote costume wasn't just the color but also the simplicity and smoothness of the design. Using the same costume and just making it black seems stupid and lazy to me but ah well.
